Can you tell what building in the Warehouse District this architectural feature belongs to?
Answer - RTA Headquarters
This building was designed by Cuddell and Richardson in 1884 for The Root & McBride Company, one of the most prestigious dry good companies in the midwest at the time. The Root & McBride Company was formed in 1849 as the City Mills general store. After undergoing several name and ownership changes, Root-McBride was a national recognized dry goods company. However, a recession in the early 1950s proved insurmountable for the company and they officially closed their doors on May 21, 1954. This left their building vacant, and it remained that way for decades. Finally, in 1997 the building was purchased and rehabilitated by the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority, who has used the building for their administrative offices.
